Britney Spears’ husband, Sam Asghari, has announced the end of their marriage after 14 months together. The couple’s divorce petition, filed on Wednesday, cites “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split. Despite engagement in September 2021 and a star-studded wedding in June 2022, rumors of marital struggles circulated in US tabloids this year.
Asghari, 29, shared a statement on Instagram, expressing that after six years of love and commitment, they have decided to part ways. He mentioned that they will cherish the love and respect they have for each other and wished her the best. While requesting kindness and thoughtfulness from the media and everyone, he acknowledged that “shit happens.”
Representatives for Britney Spears have not commented on the situation. The dissolution of marriage petition filed by Asghari includes a request for spousal support and attorneys’ fees to be paid by Spears.
Asghari, an Iranian-American actor, model, and fitness trainer, met Spears during the shooting of her music video for “Slumber Party” in 2016. He was an outspoken supporter of her efforts to end her father’s conservatorship, a battle she triumphantly won before their marriage.
Their wedding, held at Spears’ residence in California, was a star-studded event attended by celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Madonna, and Drew Barrymore. The separation comes as Spears is preparing to release her memoir, “The Woman in Me,” in October.
This marks the end of Spears’ third marriage. Her first marriage, in 2004, to childhood friend Jason Alexander, lasted just 55 hours before being annulled. Her second marriage to rapper Kevin Federline lasted from 2004 to 2007.
