Cardi B is getting real about her emotional struggles during her marriage to Offset and the newfound happiness she’s embracing after their split. Just a day after publicly debuting her relationship with NFL star Stefon Diggs, the rapper opened up on X Spaces on June 3, reflecting on her past and how it nearly broke her.
The 32-year-old Grammy winner candidly described how mentally draining her relationship with Offset had become. “I don’t think people understand how tired I was — how mentally drained I was,” Cardi shared. “I couldn’t eat, I had constant headaches, and I was literally losing my mind.”

Despite giving Offset “chances after chances,” Cardi said the emotional toll became unbearable. “If I stayed there, I was going to end up going to jail, ‘cause I was going to end up killing him. Seriously, with my own bare hands,” she admitted. “It was just getting too much.”
While many assume infidelity was the main cause of their split, Cardi insisted it was much deeper than that. “It wasn’t just cheating. It was the lies, the gaslighting, the constant drama. I woke up paranoid every single morning,” she said, noting even her management team suggested therapy due to her mental health struggles.
The couple, who married in 2017, previously reconciled after Cardi filed for divorce in 2020. They later welcomed their daughter, Blossom. However, the relationship ultimately came to an end in July 2024 when Cardi filed for divorce again.
“I did therapy. I tried. I fell back in love, had my baby — but when something is over, it’s over,” she explained. “And I don’t know what people expected me to do.”
Now, Cardi is focusing on herself and slowly stepping into a new chapter. “I’m in a place where I’m very happy. I feel like I’m crawling, learning how to date again,” she said, revealing it took her a long time to open up to someone new. That someone is Stefon Diggs, with whom she built a friendship before romance bloomed.
Though Cardi has faced backlash since going public with her new relationship, she didn’t hold back in addressing her critics. “I do not understand why I’m getting so much disgusting hate from men. I was married for seven years and faithful,” she said.
Reflecting on her growth, Cardi concluded, “I went through trauma. I shed so many tears to finally feel good. Let me share that — this is really my life. So shut the f— up.”
