K-pop sensation Aespa is set to make history as the first-ever K-pop group to attend the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. Their agency, SM Entertainment, confirmed the news on April 27th, revealing that Aespa will be attending the event as ambassadors for luxury Swiss jewelry brand Chopard, which has been an official sponsor of the film festival since 1997.
The Cannes Film Festival, which is one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world, will take place from May 16th to May 27th. Aespa will be attending alongside other K-pop idols, including Bibi for “Hopeless” and f(x)’s Krystal, who will be attending with Korean films. It was also reported that Jennie from Blackpink has been invited to attend for the HBO show “The Idol,” but her attendance has not been officially confirmed.
This is not the first time that K-pop artists have been invited to the Cannes Film Festival. In 2019, BTS attended the event as part of a collaboration with Dior, and Blackpink also made an appearance at the festival in 2019.
Aespa’s attendance at the Cannes Film Festival is a significant achievement for the group and the K-pop industry as a whole. Aespa made their debut in November 2020 with their single “Black Mamba,” and have quickly become one of the most popular K-pop groups in the world. Their upcoming pre-release track “Welcome to MY World” is set to drop on May 2nd, followed by their third mini-album “MY WORLD” on May 8th.
As ambassadors for Chopard, Aespa will undoubtedly bring a touch of K-pop glamour to the festival. Chopard is known for its high-end luxury jewelry, and has been a longtime partner of the Cannes Film Festival, providing the iconic Palme d’Or trophy for the festival’s top prize.
With Aespa’s attendance at the Cannes Film Festival, K-pop’s global reach and influence continues to expand. It is a testament to the power of K-pop and its ability to captivate audiences around the world.
