Actress and model Brooke Shields made headlines recently for her candid revelations about her brief romance with American actor and political figure John F. Kennedy Jr. during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show.
Shields, who was promoting her new Hulu documentary Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields, opened up about her childhood crush on the eldest son of former US President John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
“I was so madly in love with him since the time I was three. My mom would say, ‘That’s the boy you’re going to marry,'” Shields told Stern.
In the 1980s, Shields had the chance to spend time with Kennedy when they both happened to be in Aspen, Colorado, for a wedding. Despite never having skied before, Shields attempted to impress Kennedy on the slopes and caught his attention. He then asked her out for a night with the Kennedy family at a local bar.
However, Shields ultimately chose to turn down Kennedy’s advances “because I kind of loved him too much,” she explained.
Shields also revealed details about her first kiss with Kennedy, calling it “the best kiss I’ve ever had in my life.” However, when the possibility of taking things further was raised, Shields froze up and ultimately decided against it.
“I really was just so afraid of being really hurt because if I slept with him I would have given him my entire universe, my heart, my everything,” she said.
Despite the memorable evening they shared, Shields was left to make her way back to her chalet on her own. “I had to get a cab home, which was a little less chivalrous, in my opinion,” she quipped.
Shields and Kennedy both went on to have successful careers in their respective fields, with Kennedy tragically dying in a plane crash in 1999.
Shields’ new documentary, Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields, explores her controversial role in the 1978 film Pretty Baby, which depicted child prostitution in early 20th century New Orleans. The documentary is available for streaming on Hulu.
