Elizabeth Olsen, the star of the upcoming HBO series Love & Death, recently opened up about her fear of filming certain fight scenes for the show. The series, which is based on a true story, follows the case of Texas housewife Candy Montgomery, who murdered her friend with an axe in 1980.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Olsen discussed filming the murder scene with co-star Lily Rabe, who was six months pregnant at the time. Despite having a double and post-production editing available to hide her belly, Rabe insisted on doing everything herself.
“Lily is a really physically strong human being, and so it was like real tension, physically,” Olsen said. “And there was an element where I felt safe because we had choreography, but there was an element where I didn’t want to do everything. So, it was a lot of things.”
The actress, who plays Montgomery in the series, also mentioned her lack of experience in hand-to-hand fighting and how it made the scenes feel even scarier for her.
“My experience with more fight sequences isn’t hand-to-hand fighting. And so, it felt kind of scary at times,” Olsen admitted. “And then there were moments where Lily asked me to, with the rubber axe, make contact with her body. And I tapped out and was like, ‘You’re going to have to do this with my stunt double.'”
Despite her fears, Olsen praised Rabe’s strength and dedication to the role, saying, “Lily was six months pregnant. It was awful. She had a double. And they also could erase [her belly] in post. But she was in a little shirt with a six-month belly! It was crazy. And she really wanted to do everything.”
Love & Death is set to premiere on HBO on June 20th, and fans are eagerly anticipating Olsen’s portrayal of the notorious killer Candy Montgomery.
