According to a royal expert, the strained relationship between Meghan Markle and her father, Thomas Markle, has left her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, without the love of their grandfather. Jennie Bond, a royal commentator, has called the situation “sad” and urged Thomas Markle to stop making public comments about his daughter.
In a recent interview with New magazine, Bond said, “Despite the fact he keeps going on television – which is quite literally the worst possible thing he could do – I mean, he should realize that this is the one way to drive Meghan further away.” She added, “I feel very sad that a father who is clearly very frail is having to say things like ‘she is mourning me’ and ‘I won’t let her bury me while I’m alive’.”
Bond also expressed her sympathy for Meghan’s children, saying, “When he said, ‘Please can I get to know my grandchildren? That’s the point where you feel very sad for Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet because it is possible that they’ll never know their grandfather and that is real deprivation.”
The expert went on to criticize Meghan and Prince Harry’s decision to keep their children away from their blood relatives, saying, “Harry and Meghan are depriving their children of knowing their blood relatives, so I’m just mystified about how Meghan can be so unforgiving to her father. She and Harry talk so much about kindness and love, but it just doesn’t seem to extend to their own families.”
Thomas Markle and Meghan have had a tumultuous relationship since before her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018. He has frequently spoken out against his daughter and the royal family in the press, leading to a further deterioration of their relationship. Meghan has not publicly commented on her father’s recent statements.
