“Friends” actor Matt LeBlanc paid a personal and emotional tribute to his late costar Matthew Perry on Tuesday, two weeks after his shock death.
Perry, who played the legendary role of Chandler Bing on the hit TV sitcom from 1994-2004, died last month at the age of 54, having struggled for decades with addiction and related severe health issues.
LeBlanc, who played Perry’s roommate and best friend on the show, wrote, “The times we had together are honestly among the favorite times of my life.”
He shared on Instagram numerous screenshots of “Friends” scenes featuring the duo, including two in which they are hugging.
He added, “It was an honor to share the stage with you and to call you my friend. Spread your wings and fly brother you’re finally free.”
Matthew Perry was found unconscious in a hot tub at his house in Los Angeles in October by first responders, who were unable to revive him.
The cause of Perry’s death is not yet known. An initial post-mortem examination was inconclusive and the outcomes of toxicology tests have not yet been released.
Perry’s five costars — Cox, LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, and Lisa Kudrow — released a joint statement two days after his passing.
They said, “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just castmates. We are a family.”
They added at the time, “There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss. In time we will say more, as and when we are able.”
The five reportedly all attended Perry’s private funeral in Los Angeles earlier this month.
