Ice Spice’s upcoming album, “Y2K,” may be her first, but she’s already become famous in the music industry and beyond since releasing her first EP, “Like…?,” in January 2023.
Since then, the rapper won awards, performed globally, picked up Grammy nominations, and collaborated with icons, including Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj.
“I was like, ‘No you’re lying. That’s not real,” she told Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager of her initial reaction after Taylor Swift called about collaborating on a remix of “Karma.” “And then, yeah, I was so emotional. It was like, tears of joy, of course. But I’m just grateful. Iconic.”
As for what it was like to work with Minaj on their 2023 hits, “Princess Diana” and “Barbie World,” Ice Spice said on TODAY that it was an “unreal” experience.
“I did not think that I would ever get a feature with her. Let alone two, so I’m so grateful,” she said.
The “In Ha Mood” rapper revealed that the name of her new album, which will come out later in 2024, will be “Y2K” because it pays homage to Jan. 1, 2000, the day she was born.
As for collaborations, Ice Spice is keeping mum on which artists will be featured on the debut project, but teased on TODAY that she just confirmed someone special.
“I have a crazy collaboration that just got locked in like two days ago,” she said with a smile.
