Jay-Z responds to rape allegations in a refiled lawsuit; he calls the claims ‘blackmail’ and vows to expose the truth.
Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, has issued a strong response to accusations made in a refiled civil lawsuit. The lawsuit, initially filed in October naming Sean “Diddy” Combs, now includes Carter as a defendant.
The accuser, identified as “Jane Doe,” alleges the two raped her in 2000 following an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty.
In a public statement, Carter refuted the allegations, calling them a deliberate act of blackmail. He stated his lawyer received an attempt at coercion from Tony Buzbee, the accuser’s attorney, aiming to pressure him into a settlement.
“These actions had the opposite effect,” Carter said, emphasizing his intention to publicly expose the accuser and their claims as fraudulent.
“You have made a terrible error in judgment thinking that all ‘celebrities’ are the same. I’m not from your moral world. I’m a young man who made it out of the projects of Brooklyn.”
Carter expressed disdain for what he described as an exploitative attempt to tarnish his reputation, asserting that he holds “very strict codes and honor.”
He continued, “We protect children; you seem to exploit people for personal gain.”
The lawsuit, filed under New York’s Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act, seeks unspecified damages. Carter’s robust denial highlights his intent to challenge the claims vigorously, accusing the accuser of conspiring with others to harm his name.
