Jennifer Lopez is gearing up for the release of her latest film, “The Mother,” which premieres on Netflix on May 12. The singer and actress recently sat down for an interview to discuss her role in the new thriller.
In the film, Lopez plays a military-trained assassin who comes out of hiding to protect the daughter she was forced to give up. The character is a departure from Lopez’s previous roles and marks a shift in the types of roles she’s being offered.
“I think it’s really about that I’m getting these opportunities to play these roles that I wasn’t even getting offered in my 20s and 30s,” Lopez told Yahoo Entertainment. “So it’s actually very empowering and when I get sent these scripts and I look at them. … I just think that there’s a really beautiful story at the core of this and [we looked at] how big of an action movie [it could] be, depending on who we bought on as director, which [was] Niki.”
Lopez is no stranger to action films, having previously starred in the acclaimed 1998 movie “Out of Sight” and the 2002 domestic abuse revenge thriller “Enough.”
The film is directed by Niki Caro and also stars Lucy Paez as Lopez’s daughter, as well as Bobby Cannavale and Nick Nolte in supporting roles. The movie has been described as a fast-paced, high-stakes thriller that is sure to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
Lopez has been busy promoting the film ahead of its release, making appearances on talk shows, and sharing behind-the-scenes footage on social media. Fans are excited to see her in this new role and to witness her action-packed performance.
“The Mother” promises to be a thrilling addition to Netflix’s lineup, and with Lopez at the helm, audiences are sure to be in for a wild ride.
