Keanu Reeves has revealed that Canadian indie pop group Alvvays has currently dominated his favorite band list.
In an interview with NME, the John Wick: Chapter 4 actor gushed over the group’s inventiveness and lead singer Molly Rankin’s talent.
While Reeves admitted he has yet to buy Alvvays’ latest album, he stated that he had purchased it digitally. The Matrix star joked that the group’s album “Blue Rev” was his “favorite album to be,” and added, “Can I say that? Because I love that band.”
Founded in 2011, Alvvays consists of Rankin (vocals and guitar), Kerri MacLellan (keyboards), Alec O’Hanley (guitars), Abbey Blackwell (bass), and Sheridan Riley (drums). The band’s debut album broke the US college charts in 2014, and their popularity has continued to grow.
Reeves shared his admiration for Alvvays, particularly Rankin’s vocals, “I like me a good pop song, and I like me a kind of inventiveness in it. And I think the lead singer, she’s great…And I love the textures in it. I mean, I love bass guitar and drums, and I like their energy.”
As one of Hollywood’s most beloved actors, Reeves’ endorsement of Alvvays is sure to bring even more attention to the already popular Canadian group.
