Sam Smith fans were left disappointed as the acclaimed singer announced the cancellation of two more shows due to a vocal cord injury. The non-binary artist had to halt a concert in Manchester on Wednesday (24 May) after a short performance, leading fans to express their dismay.
Unfortunately, Smith has now confirmed that the planned gigs in Birmingham and Glasgow, which had already been rescheduled due to illness, will also be called off, leaving fans saddened by the news.
Taking to Instagram Story on Thursday, Smith shared a heartfelt message about the cancellations, expressing their own devastation and the necessity of “complete vocal rest” as advised by doctors.
“Due to a vocal cord injury, Sam must have complete vocal rest. Sam is heartbroken to have had to cancel these shows, but they have been told by doctors that if they continue singing, it could cause permanent damage to their voice,” revealed the singer’s spokesperson.
The spokesperson added, “By taking some rest, they will be able to perform again.”
The post on Instagram Story featured the words “I’m so sorry” along with a broken heart emoji, underscoring the singer’s regret over the situation.
Fans took to social media to share their disappointment while expressing concern for Smith’s well-being. One Twitter user wrote, “Hope Sam Smith is okay but so gutted the show is canceled tonight.” Another tweet expressed a personal connection to the artist, saying, “I think the universe is trying to tell me something about @samsmith. I had tickets for a face-to-face album signing which got canceled, and now 2 shows have been canceled too! More upset for my daughter who’s a young carer; this was her Christmas present.” Yet another fan expressed their sadness but also wished for a speedy recovery, stating, “Sad but hope Sam gets better soon!”
As Sam Smith prioritizes their vocal health and seeks the necessary rest and recovery, fans are left hoping for their swift return to the stage. The support and understanding of their dedicated fan base serve as a testament to the singer’s enduring popularity and genuine concern for their well-being.
