Stranger Things star Eduardo Franco says his character Argyle will not be returning for its final season as he was asked about his current involvement in the hit Netflix series after concerned fans noticed that he was not featured in a recent season 5 cast photo.
“I appreciate that. It’s nice to hear that there’s some sort of concern, you know what I mean?” Eduardo Franco said on The Steve Varley Show on Thursday. “But I never got a phone call, so yeah, I think that’s it.”
A Netflix rep did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.
The aforementioned photograph featured Stranger Things’ main cast — plus creators Matt and Ross Duffer — sitting in a large room together, with Finn Wolfhard holding what appears to be a script in his lap.
“THIS IS A CODE RED,” its caption read, “STRANGER THINGS 5 production has officially begun!!!”
A new addition to season 4, Argyle was the Purple Palm Tree Delight-smoking best bud of Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) after the Byers made their move to California. The “Pass the Dutchie” enthusiast was instrumental in helping Jonathan, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Will (Noah Schnapp), and Wolfhard’s Mike escape a deadly shootout at their house and getting them all safely back to Hawkins in his super cool pizza van.
The character’s final shot in season 4 saw him wandering out into the forrest surrounding Jim Hopper’s (David Harbour) cabin in search of edible mushrooms. Maybe he’s still out there looking to this day?
