On Sunday, Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs register their win over the Minnesota Vikings but this time, without Taylor Swift in the stands.
The Chiefs finished on top, 27-20, but the match was filled with dramatics, especially for Kelce. With a few minutes left before halftime, the tight end, 34, slid and twisted his ankle at an uneasy angle as he attempted to run the ball downfield. Kelce limped off the field and was sent to the locker room for X-rays as his team ended the first half.
But Kelce was capable of making it back into the match with a heavily taped-up right ankle, later picking up more yardage and a touchdown in the third quarter.
Sunday’s match was Kelce and the Chiefs’ first match in three weeks without their prominent fanatic, Swift. Amid her rumored relationship with the two-time Super Bowl champ, she’s been exhilarating Kelce on in his suite, usually alongside his mom, Donna Kelce.
But after two matches in the stands rooting Kelce on — against the Chicago Bears on September 24 and the New York Jets on October 1 — Swift sat this win out.
The severe focus on Kelce and Swift during the previous few matches has led to some backlash from fanatics, and even the NFL superstar said he thought the league was “overdoing it a bit.”
Talking on their podcast, New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce Presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment, on Wednesday, Kelce’s brother Jason questioned, “Let’s get to it, is the NFL overdoing it?,” with the megastar coverage.
With prompted a laugh from Travis, Jason said, “What’s your honest opinion? Take away your feelings for Taylor…”
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end acknowledged, “I think it’s fun when they show who was at the game. I think it brings a little bit more to the atmosphere, and brings a little bit more to what you’re watching. But at the same time, I think-“
“They’re overdoing it,” Jason finished, to which Travis agreed: “They’re overdoing it a little bit for sure, especially my situation. [But] I think they’re just trying to have fun with it.”
“Kelce and Swift are still just getting to know each other,” a source told earlier this week.
Though Kelce is spending time with Swift, “he’s focusing on football like he always has,” the source says.
“During the NFL season, his priority is the Chiefs, and it’s all about the team.”
