Cillian Murphy’s performance in the upcoming Peaky Blinders spin-off film, The Immortal Man, has already impressed creator Steven Knight, who lauded the actor for his remarkable portrayal of Tommy Shelby.
In an interview with The UK Independent, Knight shared his excitement for the project, noting he is eagerly anticipating watching the first completed cut of the movie. He admitted to being pleased with the footage he had seen thus far and couldn’t hold back his admiration for Murphy’s performance.

Describing Murphy as “at his best,” Knight praised the Oscar-nominated actor’s remarkable ability to bring Tommy Shelby to life in this highly anticipated film. “What fans can expect is something completely phenomenal,” Knight said. “I know, I would say that, but we’ve got the best actors and the best cast you could possibly get in one place.”
The spin-off, which takes place during World War II, follows Tommy Shelby as he faces off against Nazis. The film explores a period when Britain stood alone against Germany, before the United States entered the war. Knight expressed confidence that The Immortal Man will exceed expectations and thrill fans with its captivating story and stellar performances.
The film also introduces new cast members Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth, and Rebecca Ferguson, all of whom Knight praised for excelling in their roles.
In reflecting on his writing process, Knight shared that he doesn’t focus on trying to predict what audiences want but instead follows his instincts. “If you write things to second guess what an audience wants, you’ve already probably failed,” he explained. “So, what I try to do is write whatever comes to me when I’m on the keyboard and let the fingers be in charge.”
Knight also mentioned that working with a talented team and allowing them to bring the script to life was crucial in ensuring the film’s success. “When you watch it back, very quickly, you sort of think, ‘OK, this is working, or it’s not,’ and it is so working.”
Peaky Blinders came to an end in 2022 after six seasons, but fans of the iconic gangster series can look forward to The Immortal Man, which will continue Tommy Shelby’s legacy in a new and thrilling direction. The film is set to delve into World War II, showcasing Tommy’s fight against the growing Nazi regime and the challenges Britain faced during this dark chapter of history.
