Cynthia Erivo has finally explained why she and co-star Ariana Grande have been so emotional while promoting their upcoming film, Wicked. In a recent interview on Heart Breakfast, the actress discussed the deep emotional reactions both she and Ariana have experienced during press tours for the highly anticipated movie.

When asked by host Amanda Holden why they often end up in tears, Cynthia responded with a heartfelt admission: “We do!” She explained that the overwhelming emotions come from the energy and emotional responses that fans bring to the table during interviews. “People come in with such energy. Their emotional responses come into the room with us. It’s the first time we’ve been able to talk about it, so we’re both reliving and rehashing all the things we’ve been through and the journey we’ve been on,” Cynthia said.

Amanda empathized with the duo, recalling the numerous challenges they faced in bringing Wicked to the big screen. “Yeah, I don’t blame you. You went through COVID, you went through strikes, there were all kinds of obstacles to overcome to make this movie,” she remarked.

Cynthia further revealed some behind-the-scenes details, including how the final song in the film was shot after the actor’s strike ended. “We were meant to finish earlier, but we couldn’t, so we stopped, and then six months later, we finished,” she shared.

Wicked Part 1 premiered in theaters on Friday, with fans eagerly awaiting Part 2, which will be released on November 21, 2025. The emotional journey of Cynthia and Ariana, combined with the challenges of the pandemic and strikes, adds another layer to the anticipation surrounding the movie’s release.
