Actor Damson Idris has spoken out following the unexpected news that Bridgerton star Simone Ashley has been cut from the upcoming racing drama F1. The film, directed by Joseph Kosinski and set for release on June 27, stars Idris alongside Brad Pitt, Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, and others in a high-octane cinematic experience.
In a recent interview with BuzzFeed, Idris offered his perspective on Ashley’s departure and reassured fans that there’s no drama behind the scenes.
“Her Role Was More of a Cameo” – Idris Clarifies Ashley’s Involvement
“First of all, I love Simone — not just as a person, but also as an artist. I think she’s stupidly talented,” said Idris, expressing admiration for Ashley’s work. He went on to explain that her role in F1 was not a leading one. “Essentially, the role was more of a cameo. It was sort of a love interest situation,” he said.

Idris further noted that editing decisions like this are common in the film industry. “As with many movies, you know — the director’s cut. I mean, I’ve been cut out of movies… and these things happen.”
No Hard Feelings Among Cast and Crew
Clearing up any speculation of conflict, Idris emphasized that there’s no bad blood between Ashley and the team behind F1. “The joy of it is that I know she’s gonna work with not only [director Joseph] Kosinski again, but definitely with me again,” he added, hinting at future collaborations.
