David Corenswet, the rising star who takes on the iconic role of Superman in the latest DC Universe reboot, has shared his surprising reaction to Bradley Cooper’s cameo in the new film.
Speaking during the promotion of both Superman and his new film Twisters, Corenswet was asked whether he had any scenes alongside Bradley Cooper, who appears in a brief but meaningful role as Superman’s father.
David Corenswet: “I Haven’t Met the Man… and I’m Not Happy About It”
The Pearl and The Politician actor candidly told Entertainment Tonight:
“No, I haven’t met the man and frankly, I’m not happy about it.”
Despite not crossing paths with Cooper during filming, Corenswet admitted that he was thrilled to learn Cooper had been cast in the role of Jor-El, the Kryptonian father of Superman.
“I was very excited to hear Bradley was gonna play my dad. I’m a big fan of his,” he added. “We’re both from the Philadelphia area and we know some people in common.”
The 32-year-old actor also revealed that he hasn’t seen Cooper’s performance yet, but he hopes to meet him soon.
James Gunn Reveals Why Bradley Cooper Was Cast
In the same interview, Superman director James Gunn shed light on why he chose Bradley Cooper for the fatherly cameo.
“Bradley is a friend of mine,” Gunn explained. “I needed someone who had the stature and legacy to walk in the footsteps of Marlon Brando,” referencing Brando’s portrayal of Jor-El in the original 1978 Supermanfilm.
Gunn added that Cooper and Angela Bassett, who plays Superman’s mother Lara, were filmed using cutting-edge hologram technology.
“They had to sit in the big booth with all these cameras while we created a real hologram, and they came in and nailed it,” he said.
