Marvel fans eager for the next installment of the “Deadpool” franchise might have to exercise a bit more patience. Reports suggest that “Deadpool 3” is facing potential delays, making it unlikely to meet its scheduled release date in May 2024. Instead, “Captain America: Brave New World” could swoop in to take its place, potentially debuting on May 3, 2024.
According to information from Deadline, the “Deadpool 3” project, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, is encountering production issues that could hinder its ability to meet the initial May 3 release date. Even if the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike resolves in the coming weeks, the movie is reportedly only halfway through production, rendering the original release date highly unlikely.
In contrast, “Captain America: Brave New World” appears to have navigated its production more smoothly and has already wrapped filming. While the movie had initially been slated for a May 3 release, it was subsequently pushed back to July 26. However, it now seems probable that the film will reclaim its original release date of May 3.
Furthermore, there is speculation that “Deadpool 3” might find a new home on July 26, a release date often reserved by Disney for its major cinematic releases.
Director Shawn Levy, discussing “Deadpool 3” at the Toronto International Film Festival, emphasized his commitment to preserving the essence of the beloved franchise. He described the film as unapologetically raw, audacious, and firmly R-rated, emphasizing the use of practical sets rather than digital environments to create a grounded and authentic cinematic experience. Levy also provided insights into the film’s inspiration, drawing parallels to classic buddy-cop comedies such as “Midnight Run,” “48 Hours,” and “Planes, Trains and Automobiles,” rather than slapstick comedies like “Airplane.”
