The wait is finally over as Disney releases the first trailer for its upcoming live-action adaptation of Snow White. The film, which stars Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, reimagines the classic tale with a modern, feminist twist while staying true to its core elements.
The trailer opens with Snow White reflecting on her late father’s kingdom, describing it as “a place of fairness.” She boldly confronts the Evil Queen, urging her to show kindness to her people, but the Queen’s chilling declaration—“I want to be the fairest of them all”—sets the tone for the story.
Fans of the original will recognize familiar moments, including the seven dwarves and the witch offering Snow White the infamous poisoned apple. However, this retelling adds depth and complexity to the beloved character.
At Disney’s 2022 D23 Expo, Rachel Zegler shared the creative vision behind the reimagined Snow White. “We did a really deep dive into fixing and making a modern woman out of Snow White,” she explained. “In the original cartoon, she’s 13. Here, she’s 18—more independent and grappling with grief. There’s a lot of complexity in her journey.”
Zegler also shed light on a new origin for Snow White’s name. “It ties back to a historical version of the tale, where Snow White survives a snowstorm as a baby. Her parents named her to honor her resilience. That resilience is a key theme in our film, reminding young people of their strength,” she added.
The movie promises to bring a fresh perspective to the timeless tale, with themes of courage, self-discovery, and empowerment woven throughout.
Disney’s live-action Snow White is set to debut in theaters on March 21, 2025, marking a new chapter in the retelling of the classic fairy tale. Fans can expect a visually stunning and emotionally rich cinematic experience.
