Legendary singer Dolly Parton recently provided insight into the charming reason she declined an invitation for tea from none other than Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales. During her appearance on BBC Radio 2, Parton candidly shared the story behind the invitation and her lighthearted rationale for turning it down.
Parton, the cherished 77-year-old luminary of country music, revealed that the tea invitation coincided with her business-oriented sojourn to London. “While I was on a work-related trip to London, I received an invitation to have tea with Kate, but regrettably, I couldn’t manage to attend,” she divulged during the interview.
With her characteristic candor, Parton underscored her sincere gratitude for the gesture. “I genuinely felt that it was incredibly kind and lovely of her to extend the invitation to me. I do hope that someday in the future, I’ll have the opportunity to accept and share in that experience – it would be truly wonderful,” she expressed.
However, with her signature sense of humor, Parton playfully elaborated on why she ultimately declined the gracious invitation. “But she wasn’t going to promote my rock album, so I had to say no,” the singer quipped, highlighting her playful nature and the whimsical reasoning behind her decision.
Parton also touched upon her London tour experience, expressing a bit of remorse for not being able to fully explore the city due to her work commitments. “I love the people, the feel of London. I don’t unfortunately [get time to sightsee]. I have in the past, me and my band, in a tour bus when we have it planned,” she revealed.
With an illustrious career spanning over six decades, Parton confirmed that she has no intentions of retiring from the music scene. “I would never retire. I would hopefully drop dead in the middle of a song on stage someday – and hopefully one I’ve written, but that’s how I hope to go,” she openly shared, showcasing her enduring passion for her craft.
While Parton may not be embarking on extensive tours anymore, she assured fans that she’ll continue to grace audiences with her presence through special appearances and shows. “I am not touring anymore, but I will continue to do special shows here and there now and then, like a long weekend or festival shows,” she affirmed, emphasizing her commitment to sharing her musical talents with the world.
