Drew Barrymore has candidly shared a recent health scare involving breast cancer during an episode of The Drew Barrymore Show on November 3.
The actress, known for films like Never Been Kissed and Charlie’s Angels, spoke with comedian and breast cancer survivor Tig Notaro, revealing that a “bad mammogram” had prompted doctors to push her toward an emergency biopsy.
“This was the thing I wanted to risk talking about on this show because I recently had a scare,” said the 50-year-old star. Drew reassured viewers that she is “completely fine” but admitted that waiting the five days for biopsy results was stressful.
The conversation became emotional as Drew reflected on the anxiety such medical experiences can create.
Drawing Strength from Tig Notaro’s Story
During the show, Drew also asked Notaro about her journey with breast cancer. Diagnosed in 2012 and in remission since 2013, Tig explained how her experience “cracked me open completely.” She emphasized the importance of accepting support, saying, “It is the greatest gift you can give yourself and the people that love you because people want to help. People want to do good and it changed my life.”
Notaro also discussed her work producing the documentary Come See Me in the Good Light, which follows poet Andrea Gibson’s terminal cancer diagnosis.
Drew’s Message to Fans
By opening up about her own health scare, Drew Barrymore hopes to encourage dialogue around women’s health and the importance of regular screenings. While the scare was alarming, she continues to prioritize self-care and encourages others to be proactive about their health.
