In a recent songwriters roundtable organized by The Hollywood Reporter, Dua Lipa, alongside a lineup of fellow songwriters including Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Julia Michaels, Cynthia Erivo, and Jon Batiste, shared insights into her involvement in the Barbie movie project.
The pop sensation disclosed that her introduction to the Barbie movie endeavor was through an unexpected Instagram message from fellow musician Mark Ronson. Ronson, excited about working on a film with director Greta Gerwig, reached out to Dua, urging her to contribute a song for a significant dance sequence in the movie.
Expressing her immediate enthusiasm, Dua Lipa recalled, “I was like, this is an absolute no-brainer. One thousand percent yes.”
Upon returning from a tour, Dua engaged in a detailed meeting with movie director Greta Gerwig to fully grasp the film’s underlying concept. According to the 28-year-old artist, the movie explores the existential journey of a stereotypical Barbie, delving into the complexities of experiencing the human condition.
Dua emphasized that the song she crafted, titled “Dance the Night,” was tailored to Greta’s disco-inspired vision, adding a unique musical dimension to the film.
