In a poignant statement, media mogul Oprah Winfrey underscored her unwavering commitment to the cause, saying, “Throughout the past few weeks, I’ve engaged with members of the community who have borne the brunt of the wildfires. I’ve listened to their needs and explored ways to contribute meaningfully. What has struck me most is their concern about navigating the substantial financial challenges. The solidarity within the community has been truly inspiring, and my aim is to stand alongside those affected as they navigate the journey towards recovery.”
Demonstrating their dedication, both Dwayne Johnson and Oprah Winfrey have made an initial joint contribution of $10 million to seed the People’s Fund of Maui. This fund has been carefully designed to provide direct financial relief to individuals and families who have borne the brunt of the wildfire’s impact.
As part of the recovery strategy, every adult (18 years and above) residing within the fire-affected regions of Lahaina and Kula will be eligible to receive $1,200 per month through this initiative.
