EA Shuts Down ‘The Simpsons: Tapped Out’ After 12 Years of Gameplay

EA has officially ended the journey of The Simpsons: Tapped Out, a beloved city-building mobile game that has entertained fans for over a decade. The game, based on the legendary animated series The Simpsons, launched on February 29, 2012, and quickly became a hit with its engaging gameplay and familiar characters.

In the game, players were tasked with rebuilding Springfield after a nuclear meltdown caused by none other than Homer Simpson. The freemium model, paired with its witty humor and constant updates, kept fans engaged for 12 years.

Last September, EA announced the difficult decision to shut down the game’s servers. In a heartfelt statement, the company said:

“The decision to end our 12-year journey is an emotional one. We have delighted in bringing this game to you, the fans, and seeing how you’ve each built your own beloved versions of Springfield. It has been a remarkable journey, and we are grateful that we’ve been able to deliver 308 updates, 831 characters, and— including today’s final farewell—1,463 questlines.”

On January 24, the servers were officially shut down, and fans quickly took to social media to share their emotions.

“I didn’t think I’d be so emotional about it,” one Reddit user wrote, while another commented, “I’m surprisingly bummed about this. It’s just been a little part of every day, and I think it’s going to be an adjustment period. Damn.”

A third fan poignantly noted, “13 years of The Simpsons: Tapped Out vanished in a fraction of a second. Rest easy, prince.”

Despite the sadness surrounding the game’s closure, some fans are optimistic. Many speculate that another studio might have acquired the license for The Simpsons franchise, possibly hinting at the return of the fan-favorite The Simpsons: Hit and Run.

While The Simpsons: Tapped Out has come to an end, it leaves behind a legacy of humor, creativity, and a unique connection to one of television’s most iconic families. Fans will undoubtedly cherish the memories they’ve built in their own versions of Springfield.
