Ed Sheeran Challenges Rival Football Fans to Get Creative with Their Insults

Ed Sheeran is challenging rival football fans to bring their best when it comes to insulting chants. The 34-year-old singer, who is a part-owner of Ipswich Town, expressed his desire for more creative and imaginative chants directed at him during a recent appearance on the Men In Blazers podcast.

In the exclusive interview, Sheeran discussed the chants he has heard from rival fans and shared his thoughts on their lack of originality. “The chants haven’t been funny enough. I need better chants when we go away,” he said. He explained that while he often hears rude chants, many lack the creativity that he believes makes them memorable. “I see so much thought and preparation go into some of the rude chants, and I just feel like I haven’t got the humor,” he added.

The “Shape of You” singer recalled a particular chant he heard during a match at Wolves: “Ed Sheeran’s a c***.” Although the chant was offensive, Sheeran couldn’t help but feel it lacked the ingenuity he was hoping for. “At least have a bit of imagination,” he said, comparing it to chants he has heard at other stadiums.

One chant that particularly stood out to him came from Tottenham fans, who sang, “Gimme, gimme, gimme a ginger from Sweden” to the tune of Abba’s “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” in reference to Spurs midfielder Dejan Kulusevski. Sheeran admired the effort that went into crafting that chant, noting, “Someone has put some thought into that. Someone has really taken their time.”

The singer’s appeal for more creative insults was a lighthearted moment in the midst of Ipswich Town’s challenging season, where they have won just three league games. Sheeran, who has been a part of the Ipswich Town ownership group, continues to support his team through thick and thin.

For fans unfamiliar with his musical career, Ed Sheeran began his journey in music back in 2004, steadily rising to fame with hits like “Shape of You” and “Bad Habits.” Despite his success, Sheeran remains a down-to-earth figure who isn’t afraid to poke fun at himself when it comes to football rivalry.

As the football season continues, Sheeran is sure to inspire even more creative chants from fans looking to get under his skin in the best possible way.
