Ed Sheeran recently opened up about his thoughts on the possibility of performing at the Super Bowl half-time show, revealing his surprising take on whether he would ever headline the iconic event.
During an appearance on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, the “Shape of You” singer shared that although he had been approached about performing at the Super Bowl about 10 years ago, he didn’t think he had the “pizzazz” to pull it off.
“There was a conversation about 10 years ago to go on with someone, and I think that’d be the only way I would do it,” Sheeran explained. “I don’t think English artists are like — I mean, there are some that have the pizzazz of Super Bowl, fireworks, dancers, blah, blah, blah — but me going up there and being like, here’s ‘The A Team’ and here’s ‘Perfect,’ no one wants to see that.”
The 34-year-old musician further admitted that he couldn’t picture himself performing on such a grand stage. “If there was a show with a lot of that, say like if it was Beyoncé’s show and she had all the bells and whistles and then there was a moment where we sang ‘Perfect’ together, that makes sense to me. But me, I don’t know. I can’t picture myself doing it. Can you picture me doing it?”
Despite this, Sheeran’s career continues to soar. The British singer-songwriter recently dropped Azizam, the first single from his highly anticipated eighth studio album, on April 4, 2025.
While the Super Bowl half-time show might not be on his radar, Sheeran’s reflections on his career and his personal approach to performances have provided a rare glimpse into his thoughts on the bigger stage.
