Sir Elton John has opened up about the difficult dietary restrictions he faces due to ongoing health issues, revealing that he can no longer indulge in his favorite sugary treats.
In a candid interview with RadarOnline.com, the 77-year-old music icon shared how health problems have forced him to avoid the foods he loves. Reflecting on his favorite dishes, John said, “If I had a death row meal, it wouldn’t contain anything except sweets.” He continued, “Because I can’t eat them now, I’d have ice cream, donuts, apple pie, and rhubarb crumble.”
Elton John, who was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in the early 2000s, has been battling several health issues throughout the years, making it necessary to adjust his diet. He mentioned that it has been a “long time” since he last enjoyed his beloved sweets.
However, the singer has found a way to manage his condition by sticking to foods that are less likely to spike his blood sugar. “I can have an apple, I can eat a bit of melon. As long as you’re sensible about it, it doesn’t shoot your blood sugar up,” he explained.
Though he is careful with his food choices, John admitted that he still craves chocolate and ice cream but sadly cannot indulge. Despite the limitations, the legendary artist continues to prioritize his health while navigating these challenges.
