Harry Potter star Emma Watson has reportedly faced legal consequences for a recent speeding violation while attending Oxford University, where she is currently pursuing a DPhil degree in creative writing.
According to multiple reports, the 35-year-old actress, best known for her iconic role as Hermione Granger, was caught driving at 38mph in a 30mph zone in Oxford in July 2024. This seemingly minor infraction turned serious, as Watson already had nine points on her driving license before the incident.
Emma Watson Misses Court Hearing
Although there was speculation about her presence, it has been confirmed that Watson did not attend the hearing at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court in person. The hearing lasted just five minutes and concluded with the actress receiving a £1,044 fine (approximately $1,400) and a temporary driving ban.

This driving restriction means Watson will not be allowed behind the wheel for the foreseeable future as she continues her academic journey.
From Film Sets to Lecture Halls
Watson, who rose to global fame through the Harry Potter series, has shifted her focus in recent years from acting to academics. After previously beginning a master’s program in creative writing, she transitioned to a DPhil program(Oxford’s equivalent of a PhD) at the University of Oxford.
Her educational journey began long before her Hollywood fame, with Watson attending the Dragon School and Headington School in Oxford before completing her GCSEs and A-Levels.
Her most recent film role was in 2019’s Little Women, and she has since taken a break from acting to focus on personal growth and education.
