Ethan Slater, known for his role as Boq in the upcoming Wicked film, has shared his appreciation for the unique experience of working on the highly anticipated movie, particularly alongside co-star Ariana Grande.
In a recent interview, Slater opened up about some of the standout moments from filming, highlighting the chance to be part of one of the musical’s most stunning scenes. He described a memorable shot in the library, where a dancer leaps from rotating shelves and rolls into a crowd of other dancers. “I had the chance to be one of the dancers in that scene, and it was incredible to witness firsthand,” Slater recalled. “The choreography and the camera work were so well executed. I couldn’t help but think, ‘This is one of the most spectacular shots I’ve ever been part of!’”
Aside from the impressive visuals, Slater also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to explore his character’s emotional journey more deeply in the film compared to stage performances. “In the movie, we have more time to focus on the emotional arcs of Boq and Nessa. On stage, we often have to move quickly because of the pacing, but the film gives us space to really delve into the characters’ stories,” he explained. “I’m really grateful for that chance to find the nuance in these characters.”
Slater also reflected on working alongside Ariana Grande, who plays Glinda the Good Witch. The actor, who is in a relationship with Grande, spoke about how special it was to share such an important project with her. “It’s a wonderful experience to collaborate with someone you care about on such a big project,” Slater said. “We were able to support each other through the filming process, and that made it even more meaningful.”
As Wicked continues to build excitement ahead of its release, Slater’s reflections on his time working on the film underscore the importance of both the artistic collaboration and the emotional depth that the movie promises to deliver. Fans can look forward to seeing how these powerful moments unfold on the big screen when the film premieres.
