Gal Gadot, the celebrated actress famed for her portrayal of Wonder Woman, has shared a heartwarming anecdote involving her eldest daughter’s reaction upon learning of Gadot’s forthcoming role as the Evil Queen in an upcoming live-action retelling of Snow White.
In an interview with PEOPLE, the 38-year-old star revealed her daughters’ enthusiastic anticipation to witness her on-screen in the movie. Gadot, a mother of three – Alma (11), Maya (6), and Daniella (2) – with husband Jaron Varsano, disclosed an amusing incident involving her middle child’s initial disappointment that Gadot wasn’t to embody the titular Snow White.
“They can’t wait,” Gadot conveyed, underscoring her daughters’ excitement. She further recounted her middle child’s reaction, saying, “My middle child was a bit disappointed that I wasn’t Snow White.”
Gadot shared that when she informed her daughters of her involvement in the Snow White project, her middle child mistakenly believed that her mother was cast as the iconic princess. However, clarifying her role as the Evil Queen prompted a witty response from her eldest daughter, who quipped, “Oh, how appropriate.”
Adding to the intrigue surrounding the movie, the live-action Snow White adaptation, set to release on March 22, 2024, features Rachel Zegler as the lead princess.
Discussing Zegler’s character, Gadot offered insights into her approach, emphasizing her desire to infuse depth and complexity into the portrayal of the Evil Queen. She expressed, “I wanted to make sure that we keep her delightful and delicious, and we understand what makes her tick. Then the evilness is interesting, and not just flat.”
During a prior discussion with Vogue Hong Kong, Gadot openly shared her immense delight in embracing the role of the Evil Queen. The experience held a special allure for her, primarily due to the enchanting essence of the fairy tale. “Furthermore, given the musical nature of the production, I had the freedom to amplify my performance, infusing it with heightened drama and animation. The outcome was undeniably delightful,” Gadot enthusiastically conveyed.
Shedding light on her character portrayal strategy, Gadot stressed her dedication to infusing layers of complexity and subtlety. She commented, “My focus was on ensuring that the Queen’s malevolence wasn’t merely superficial. There exists a peculiar mother-daughter dynamic between the two characters, a connection that I aimed to explore.”
Through Gadot’s engaging interaction with her daughter and her profound perspective on the role, it’s evident that her portrayal of the Evil Queen in the upcoming Snow White adaptation is poised to resonate as both captivating and multi-dimensional.
