Zack George, better known as Steel on the BBC’s hit revival of Gladiators, has opened up about a deeply personal tragedy as the show’s latest season comes to an end.
The 34-year-old fitness trainer and television personality shared an emotional message on Instagram, expressing gratitude for being part of the iconic competition series, while also quietly dealing with one of the most heartbreaking experiences of his life—the loss of his newborn son.

In his heartfelt post, Steel thanked his fellow Gladiators, production crew, and the courageous contenders who brought energy and passion to the arena.
“I’m so grateful to have been part of another incredible season of Gladiators,” he wrote. “Huge respect to all the contenders who stepped up! You really brought everything to the arena, and it’s been amazing to watch.”
Steel also added a special note of appreciation for his colleagues:
“Big thanks to my fellow Glads and everyone who makes this show what it is. It’s been a brilliant series, and I’ve loved inspiring a future generation of Gladiators.”
What fans didn’t immediately realize was that Steel had posted this message while grieving the recent loss of his baby boy. Just days earlier, he revealed that his partner, Samantha, had gone into premature labor last month. Their son was born at only 23 weeks and tragically did not survive.

The devastating news has sparked an outpouring of support from fans and fellow cast members, who flooded the comments section with messages of love, condolences, and admiration for Steel’s strength and vulnerability.
Despite his personal sorrow, Steel’s message remained hopeful, reflecting his commitment to uplifting others and his role in motivating the next wave of athletes through the show.
As Gladiators continues to inspire a new generation of viewers, Steel’s story serves as a poignant reminder of the personal battles many face behind the scenes—even in moments of public success.
