Gwyneth Paltrow has sparked a wave of speculation among fans after posting a cooking video on Instagram that many believe contains subtle shade directed at Meghan Markle. On March 22, the Iron Man actress shared a lighthearted clip of herself preparing breakfast while dressed in striped pajamas and without makeup.
The video began with Paltrow sipping coffee and making eye contact with the camera before casually putting biscuits in the oven, doing a high kick, and giving her dog a kiss. She proceeded to fry eggs, plate the meal, and proudly showed off her finished dish — a traditional breakfast of biscuits, eggs, bacon, and jam.
“My cleaner take on a classic breakfast: gluten-free buttermilk biscuits, not-so-perfectly cooked over-easy eggs, and crispy bacon #boyfriendbreakfast,” she captioned the post, set to Natalie Cole’s This Will Be (An Everlasting Love).
However, it didn’t take long for fans to start speculating that Paltrow’s cooking video was a subtle jab at the Duchess of Sussex. Markle recently showcased her cooking skills on her Netflix series With Love, Meghan, but critics quickly pointed out that Paltrow appeared more “authentic” in her own kitchen, compared to Markle, who reportedly filmed in a rented home.
One fan commented, “Gwyneth Paltrow continues to throw shade & I’m here for it! No makeup in her actual kitchen!” Another added, “No fake house, fake kitchen, fake hair extensions, fake friends… just your beautiful true self.”
This isn’t the first time Paltrow has addressed Meghan Markle in the public eye. Earlier this month, she spoke with Vanity Fair about Markle’s lifestyle rebrand, saying, “Everybody deserves an attempt at everything they want to try.” She also mentioned that she was raised to see “other women as friends, not foes,” and she instinctively defends women who face public criticism.
While neither Paltrow nor Markle has confirmed any direct tension between them, fans continue to debate the possible meaning behind the Goop founder’s video, with many praising her for her “real” and “genuine” approach to life and cooking.
