Gwyneth Paltrow’s infamous ski trial with a skiing optometrist is set to make its theatrical debut on the London stage with the production titled “Gwyneth Goes Skiing.” According to Variety, the musical play, produced by Awkward Productions, is scheduled to premiere in London in December.
The lead role of Gwyneth Paltrow will be portrayed by Linus Karp, while Joseph Martin will play Terry Sanderson, the optometrist involved in the skiing collision with Paltrow on a Utah slope in 2016. Adding an extra layer of intrigue, the production will feature original music by singer and songwriter Leland, known for his contributions to “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
The play is based on the court trial that transpired earlier this year between Paltrow and Sanderson. Sanderson initially filed a lawsuit against Paltrow, alleging injuries including a concussion, four broken ribs, and a brain injury, seeking $3.1 million in compensation. Paltrow responded with a counter-suit for $1 and attorney fees. Ultimately, the jury sided with the actress in this legal dispute.
Scheduled to run for ten days starting December 13, the production will be staged at London’s Pleasance Theatre. This unique theatrical adaptation brings the courtroom drama to life, providing audiences with a front-row seat to the real-life collision and its legal aftermath.
Interestingly, Paltrow’s ski trial is not the only celebrity legal saga to receive the stage treatment. The public feud between British soccer wives Colleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy was also adapted into a stage play, a TV drama, and various documentaries, including “Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story” on Disney+. The trend of transforming high-profile legal battles into captivating theatrical productions continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
