Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are once again making headlines, but not for reasons they might enjoy. According to royal biographer Tom Bower, the couple’s public narrative largely revolves around grievances stemming from their time within the royal family, a pattern he says may jeopardize their long-term future.
During a recent appearance on the Kinsey Scofield Unfiltered podcast, Bower criticized the Sussexes, suggesting that their fame and influence are built primarily on highlighting their alleged mistreatment by the royal household.

“The real problem for Megan and Harry is that they’ve got nothing to offer other than their victimhood and the story they’ve now told,” Bower explained.
He added that the couple’s continued public critiques pose a significant threat to the reputation of the British royal family. According to the author, the Sussexes’ lifestyle and public image rely on their ability to create narratives that cast the monarchy in a negative light.
“How can they earn a living to support their very expensive lifestyle? That’s all, that’s the whole point. There’s a car crash coming, but we don’t know the route to it,” Bower said.
The biographer also highlighted the inevitable tension: having distanced themselves from royal responsibilities, Harry and Meghan now face the challenge of maintaining influence without access to the privileges afforded by their former official roles.
“They’re now on a sharp downward spiral, and that’s what is so fascinating to all of us: how will it end? What is going to be the explosion at the bottom? How is it going to occur?” Bower questioned.
The couple has faced widespread public scrutiny for their decisions to speak openly about their struggles, but Bower warns that this approach may not be sustainable in the long run. Experts suggest that without evolving their public roles beyond criticism, the Sussexes could risk diminishing their relevance and credibility.
While Harry and Meghan continue to secure high-profile engagements and media deals, questions remain about the future of their public image and financial independence. Royal commentators are now closely watching the couple, wondering whether their narrative will evolve or remain tied to controversy and grievances.
