Australian rapper Iggy Azalea has shown her support for Tory Lanez, who is facing sentencing after being convicted of several counts related to a 2020 incident involving the shooting of his ex-girlfriend, Megan Thee Stallion.
Tory Lanez, 31, had been in custody since December 2022, following his guilty plea to multiple charges stemming from the shooting incident in July 2020. Megan Thee Stallion testified during the trial that Lanez shot at her feet during an argument after they left a party.
As his sentencing date on August 7 approached, Lanez received over 70 letters expressing support, including one from Azalea. These letters were presented to Judge Herriford during the proceedings.
Azalea’s letter implored the judge to impose a sentence that promotes transformation rather than destruction. Lanez’s fellow inmate also advocated on his behalf, stating that he is remorseful and has discussed the incident and what could have been done differently.
Prosecutors in Los Angeles have called for a 13-year prison sentence for Lanez, along with deportation to his native Canada. Lanez was convicted on charges of first-degree assault, carrying an unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and negligent discharge of a firearm.
Megan Thee Stallion, who experienced the trauma of the incident and endured months of trial proceedings, stated in April that she would not discuss the matter in future interviews. The case has garnered significant attention due to its high-profile nature and the involvement of well-known individuals.
