In a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Australian actor Jacob Elordi addressed the unexpected viral trend surrounding a bathwater candle inspired by a provocative scene from his film Saltburn. The 26-year-old actor, known for his role in the boundary-pushing movie, shared his lighthearted take on the unique candle phenomenon.
The particular scene in question involves Elordi’s character, Felix, having an intimate moment in a bathtub, followed by another character drinking the leftover bathwater. This peculiar cinematic moment has spurred the creation of candles labeled “Jacob Elordi’s Bathwater,” available on platforms like Etsy and Amazon, and offered in various scents and materials.
Elordi expressed his amusement at the candle trend during the interview with Fallon, noting that his co-star Cailee Spaeny had sent him videos of people crafting and selling these candles. In jest, Elordi quipped, “I wanna know who’s making the money, you know? My first thing was like, ‘Great, where’s my money?'”
Taking advantage of the comedic opportunity, Fallon presented one of the candles to Elordi and playfully suggested that he experience the scent firsthand. Elordi, with a good-humored spirit, took a whiff of the candle and jokingly mimicked slurping it, recreating the scene from the film. He amusingly commented, “Smells like a washing room. Like detergent. His clothes are clean.”
Elordi’s co-star Barry Keoghan, who portrays Oliver in Saltburn, had previously embraced the trend, humorously mentioning that he already owns ten of these viral bathwater candles.
Emerald Fennell, the writer and director of Saltburn, discussed the intent behind the provocative scenes in the film. Fennell emphasized the film’s exploration of unconventional love, describing it as “impossible, carnivorous, forever, impossible vampire love.” Saltburn, known for its boundary-pushing narrative, is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
