Filmmaker Jeff Fowler has addressed the possibility of Jim Carrey returning for Sonic 4 after his character, Dr. Eggman, met his demise in the 2024 action-thriller.
At the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Dr. Eggman and his grandfather Gerald die in an epic space battle against Sonic and the character Shadow, leaving fans wondering whether Carrey could make a return in the next installment.
When asked about the actor’s potential return, Fowler expressed his admiration for working with Carrey but emphasized that it’s too early to make any definitive decisions.
“I mean, I love working with Jim Carrey. It’s too soon to really say where things could go from here. But I’m just so proud of these three films,” Fowler said.
Fowler also acknowledged the difficulty of bringing back Dr. Eggman’s character, pointing out that any future involvement would require deep creative thought.
“And I know he’s had the time of his life playing Robotnik. So yeah, it’s something we just have to think through. But too soon to say anything just yet,” Fowler added.
In the same interview, Fowler revealed that fans have been clamoring to see the Sega character ‘Silver’ make an appearance in the next film. He confirmed that this is something they would consider as they plan future projects.
“We’ll take it into consideration for sure,” he said.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has proven to be a box office hit, earning a record-breaking $422.4 million globally. With the movie’s success, the future of the franchise remains full of possibilities.
