Jennifer Aniston has opened up about her decision to decline an offer to appear on Saturday Night Live, offering a candid perspective on her career choices and experiences as a woman in a male-dominated industry.
The Friends alum discussed the decision during an appearance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, reflecting on the opportunity she received while in New York City.
A Male-Dominated Show
When asked about the SNL offer, Aniston said, “I always thought I am not meant for it.” She added, “It’s a very male-dominated show and I would love to be here if it was like in the Gilda Radner days.”
The 56-year-old actress admitted she couldn’t fully recall all the details from the time but suggested that her focus shifted toward starring in Friends, which became a defining role in her career.
Career Choices and Female Representation
Aniston explained that part of her hesitation stemmed from a self-righteous attitude about how women were treated on SNL. “I don’t know why I had this self-righteous attitude like if women are treated the way they should be treated on this show,” she said, highlighting her awareness of gender dynamics in comedy and entertainment.
Personal Reflections
Elsewhere in the interview, Aniston touched on her infertility challenges and the public scrutiny surrounding her personal life choices. She shared that she has made peace with not having children, saying:
“It’s so peaceful. But I will say, well, there’s a point where it’s like, it’s out of my control. There’s literally nothing I can do about it.”
The discussion offered an intimate glimpse into how Aniston has navigated both professional and personal pressures, emphasizing her commitment to authenticity and her perspective as a female actor navigating Hollywood.
