Jeremy Allen White Opens Up About the Emotional Toll of Portraying Bruce Springsteen in ‘Deliver Me From Nowhere’

Jeremy Allen White is baring his soul about the intense journey behind his portrayal of music icon Bruce Springsteen in the upcoming biopic, Deliver Me From Nowhere. The 35-year-old actor, best known for his acclaimed role in The Bear, revealed that embodying “The Boss” took a serious emotional and physical toll.

In a candid interview with The Sunday Times, White admitted that the process left him deeply drained. “I feel like I’m pain for hire — like I’m getting paid to put myself in painful places,” he said. The actor explained that filming the project demanded complete isolation and long periods away from his family. “Filming the Bruce movie was incredibly difficult. I was in isolation. I was far from my children. I didn’t travel home much. It made me unwell, and when I came out of it, I thought, ‘There has to be a better way.’”

White, who shares two daughters, Ezer, 7, and Dolores, 4, with his ex-wife Addison Timlin, shared that portraying Springsteen required months of physical and emotional preparation. Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, he said, “There was a lot of prep. It was tough. I am such an admirer of Bruce, so it took a long time to accept I could do it. I trained six times a week for six months so I could sound a bit like Bruce. The rasp came naturally after singing the songs over and over again.”

The upcoming biopic, Deliver Me From Nowhere, explores Springsteen’s creative process during the making of his 1982 album Nebraska — one of his most introspective and haunting works. White’s transformation into the legendary musician has already sparked buzz for potential award recognition.

Even Bruce Springsteen himself has spoken out about the casting, expressing full support for White’s performance. “I’d seen him in The Bear and saw how the camera read his internal psychology,” Springsteen said. “Jeremy’s performance is very real and authentic. He was my first choice, and fortunately, he took the job.”

White’s emotionally charged portrayal of Springsteen highlights not just his acting range but also the personal sacrifices that come with inhabiting such a legendary figure. As anticipation builds for Deliver Me From Nowhere, fans are eager to see how White channels Springsteen’s raw energy, vulnerability, and artistry on screen.
