John Krasinski is making a major career move as he prepares to return to the Off-Broadway stage. The The Office star announced on March 26 that he will be starring in the upcoming play Angry Alan, which is set to premiere in New York City this spring.
Taking to Instagram, Krasinski shared a cover image for the play, expressing his excitement about the upcoming project. “I am THRILLED to be getting on stage this spring/summer in Angry Alan!” he wrote in the caption. He also praised the creative team behind the production, adding, “A phenomenal play written by the equally phenomenal Penelope Skinner and directed by the incomparable Sam Gold!”

In a statement to PEOPLE, the actor best known for his role in A Quiet Place reflected on his excitement about returning to the Off-Broadway scene. “I couldn’t be more excited to be returning to Off-Broadway, and to be surrounded by such a force of talent in Penny and Sam is quite literally a dream scenario,” Krasinski said.
Angry Alan is a dark comedy that explores the journey of one man as he becomes increasingly immersed in the digital world. The play examines the lengths he is willing to go to and what he is prepared to lose in the pursuit of validation in a society where “everybody’s changing the rules.”
Preview performances for Angry Alan will begin on May 23, with the official opening scheduled for June 11.
Director Sam Gold expressed his excitement about working with Krasinski, saying in a statement, “I’ve been looking for years to lure John to the stage. What a dream it’s going to be with such a vital piece of writing from one of my favorite writers and collaborators. I can’t wait to get started!”
Krasinski has previous experience on the Off-Broadway stage, having appeared in the 2016 production of Dry Powder at The Public Theater. In that production, he starred alongside three-time Emmy winner Claire Danes and six-time Emmy winner Hank Azaria.
Fans of Krasinski can look forward to seeing him back on stage, marking an exciting new chapter in his diverse career.
