Fans of the action-packed John Wick franchise may need to practice patience, as director Chad Stahelski has shared a thoughtful update on the highly anticipated fifth installment.
In a recent interview with Collider, Stahelski confirmed that there are ideas in motion for John Wick 5, but the development process won’t be rushed. He emphasized the importance of growth—both creatively and personally—before diving into another chapter of the hit series starring Keanu Reeves.
“If you want a John Wick 5, you’re going to have to sit back a little bit,” Stahelski said. “Let me and Keanu live a little—try new things, grow as people, and explore different experiences. That’s how we bring something fresh to the table.”

The director, who is also a renowned stunt coordinator, revealed he has been traveling the world over the past year and a half in search of inspiration for new characters and locations. These real-world experiences, he said, help shape the storytelling and world-building that fans have come to love.
“I’ve been visiting new places, meeting fascinating people, and collecting ideas that might influence future characters,” he explained. “If we want to keep the franchise original, we need to experience original things.”
While John Wick 5 remains in the early conceptual stage, Stahelski is currently focusing on the upcoming spin-off film, Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas. The film, set in the same universe, promises more action, new faces, and deeper exploration of the assassin underworld.
Although there’s no official release date or confirmation of Keanu Reeves’ return just yet, Stahelski’s comments suggest that when John Wick does return to the big screen, it will be worth the wait.
