Johnny Depp Reacts to ‘Day Drinker’ Being Called His Comeback Film: “I Didn’t Go Anywhere”

Johnny Depp, once embroiled in a highly publicized legal battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard, is making his way back to the big screen with an exciting new project titled Day Drinker. The 61-year-old actor’s reputation took a hit following Heard’s 2022 allegations of mental and physical abuse during their marriage, as well as claims of Depp’s struggles with substance abuse.

These accusations not only affected Depp’s public image but also cost him major roles in blockbuster franchises like Pirates of the Caribbean and Alice in Wonderland. However, after being cleared of all charges and winning the defamation case, Depp is now ready to return to acting.

Often described by media as a “comeback,” Depp himself dismisses the term. Speaking at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, Depp expressed, “I keep wondering about the word ‘comeback’ because I didn’t go anywhere, matter of fact I live 45 minutes away.” He added that during the trial, many people may have distanced themselves out of fear, but he never truly disappeared from the industry.

“Maybe people stopped calling out of whatever their fear was at the time. But no, I didn’t go nowhere. I’ve been sitting around so comeback is sort of like, you know, it’s almost like I’m gonna come out and do a tap dance,” Depp said humorously.

In Day Drinker, Depp will star alongside Penélope Cruz, marking a highly anticipated return to cinema for the actor. Fans and critics alike are eager to see Depp’s fresh performances as he moves forward from past controversies.
