Johnny Depp is set to showcase his second directorial effort, Modi — Three Days on the Wings of Madness, at the San Sebastian Film Festival in September.
In a statement to Variety, Depp, known for his roles in Pirates of the Caribbean and Alice in Wonderland, described the project as an “incredibly fulfilling and transformative experience.” He expressed deep gratitude to the cast, crew, and producers for their dedication and creativity.
Depp also acknowledged the support of Al Pacino, who played a key role in the film’s development. “When Al Pacino asked me to direct this film, how could I refuse? I am sincerely thankful for his talent and dedication to this project,” Depp said.
The film will be featured in the festival’s out-of-competition segment. Modi is described as a dramatic tale of art, love, and rejection, set against the backdrop of a chaotic 72-hour period in World War I-era Paris.
The cast includes notable actors Stephen Graham, Al Pacino, and Antonia Desplat. Depp’s Modi marks his return to directing after his 1997 film The Brave. This project is particularly significant as it follows Depp’s high-profile legal battles in 2022.
In addition to Modi, Depp appeared in Maïwenn’s Jeanne du Barry, which was presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023.
