Director Jon M. Chu is giving fans a sneak peek into the highly anticipated sequel, Wicked: For Good, revealing exciting updates and surprises ahead of its release.
In an exclusive interview with Deadline, the Crazy Rich Asians filmmaker shared insights about the film’s reshoots, major changes, and a mysterious actor set to voice the Cowardly Lion. Chu revealed that during reshoots in March, he reached out to an actor on social media to see if they were interested in taking on the iconic voice role.

“I was like, ‘It’s not a ton of lines, but maybe you have a little time. I know you’re busy, I’ll come to you,’” Chu recalled. “He was like, ‘Why the f— not, let’s go!’ And then we went ahead and recorded the lines.”
While Chu did not disclose the actor’s identity, he hinted that fans will be in for a major surprise at the red carpet premiere. “Man, wait until the red carpet when the actor who gave us the Cowardly Lion’s voice steps foot on it. It’ll be wild,” he teased.
What to Expect from Wicked: For Good
The sequel picks up with the adult versions of Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey), continuing the magical story introduced in the first film. Fans can also look forward to appearances from Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater, adding new energy and star power to the musical adaptation.
