Kanye West is set to headline the 2026 Wireless Festival, but the announcement has ignited controversy over his past antisemitic remarks. The backlash has prompted several key sponsors to withdraw support, and high-level politicians have also expressed concern.
Political and Public Outcry
Keir Starmer criticized the festival booking as “deeply concerning,” referencing West’s previous antisemitic statements and praise of Nazism. Amid mounting pressure, the UK government is reportedly reviewing West’s right to enter the country.
Festival Organisers Defend Decision
Despite the uproar, Wireless Festival organiser Melvin Benn publicly defended the decision to keep West on the lineup. In a detailed statement, Benn acknowledged that West’s past comments about Jews and Hitler were “abhorrent” but clarified that his appearance is strictly for musical performance.

“He is intended to come in and perform. We are not giving him a platform to extol opinions of whatever nature, only to perform the songs that are currently played on the radio stations in our country and the streaming platforms in our country and listened to and enjoyed by millions,” Benn said.
He also appealed to the public for reflection and forgiveness, stating, “Offer some forgiveness and hope to him as I have decided to do.”
West’s Apologies and Public Skepticism
Kanye West has previously admitted that his antisemitic outbursts were wrong and has issued apologies. However, many remain unconvinced about the sincerity of his statements, leaving a divided public opinion as the festival approaches.
What This Means for the Festival
The controversy surrounding West’s participation has brought attention to the challenges of balancing artistic freedom with public accountability. While some sponsors have exited and political pressure continues, festival organisers are maintaining that the event is solely about music and performance, not political statements.
The 2026 Wireless Festival promises to be one of the most talked-about events of the year, both for its lineup and the ongoing debate surrounding Kanye West.
