Keanu Reeves is officially returning to the John Wick universe with the announcement of John Wick: Chapter 5. Lionsgate confirmed the exciting news at CinemaCon 2025 in Las Vegas on April 1. The star, along with director Chad Stahelski and producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, is working on the sequel, promising fans a fresh and phenomenal chapter in the John Wick saga.
According to Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, the returning team wouldn’t come back unless they had something truly groundbreaking to offer. He stated, “Keanu, Chad, Basil, and Erica would not return unless they had something truly exceptional and fresh to offer with these characters and this world.”

But the news doesn’t end with just a new film. Reeves is also set to voice John Wick in an animated prequel, which will explore the infamous “Impossible Task” — the event where Wick took out all his rivals in a single night to break free from the High Table and reunite with his wife, Helen. Shannon Tindle will direct the animated film, and Stahelski, who has drawn significant inspiration from anime for the John Wick series, is excited about this new direction. “I believe John Wick is the perfect property for this medium,” he said.
Since the first film’s release in 2014, Reeves has embodied the role of the iconic assassin in three successful sequels, in 2017, 2019, and 2023, solidifying John Wick as a major action franchise.
The John Wick universe continues to expand with Ana de Armas’ spinoff Ballerina set to release on June 6, 2025, as well as the upcoming series John Wick: Under the High Table.
Fans of the franchise are eager to see how the saga will unfold in the coming years, as the world of John Wick continues to captivate audiences worldwide. With Reeves’ return and the addition of a prequel and animated feature, there is no doubt that the John Wick universe is about to get even more thrilling.
