Rapper Kid Cudi has confirmed that he no longer has any relationship with former collaborator and close friend Kanye West. In a candid interview with Anthony Mason on CBS Mornings on August 13, the 41-year-old artist opened up about the complete breakdown of their friendship.
“It’s a sad thing, you know?” Cudi said when asked about their current status. He explained, “The freedom that we experienced when we were creating, it just will never happen again. That is the heartbreaking side of things. But hey, I had a lot of things in my life break my heart and I’ve been able to survive and move past it.”

When asked if West had broken his heart, Cudi didn’t hold back. “I think he has over and over, multiple times,” he said, citing violations of “the code of a friendship.” Attempts at reconciliation, Cudi revealed, have repeatedly failed.
Cudi expressed deep disappointment over West’s comments about Virgil Abloh, the celebrated designer and former Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton Menswear, who passed away at 41 due to cardiac angiosarcoma. “Every time he took a dig at Virgil, it just made me super angry. Virgil was an angel to everyone, there’s no coming back from that,” Cudi said.

“Like, I’m done with you, and it breaks my heart, because I loved Kanye, you know? I really loved him. He was a part of my life changing. And at some point, he was a really good friend, but the man that he has become, I just don’t know that guy anymore,” Cudi added.
West had previously admitted in a 2018 New York Times interview that he needed to remove “jealousy and fear” regarding Abloh’s career. However, he later posted disparaging remarks about the late designer on social media, further straining his relationship with Cudi.
For Kid Cudi, those comments have permanently closed the door on any possibility of future friendship with Kanye West.
