The reality star reveals the emotional toll of Kanye’s mental health struggles and how she chose to protect her peace for her children.
Kim Kardashian is sharing new details about the painful final moments that led to her separation from ex-husband Kanye West, shedding light on the emotional challenges she faced behind closed doors. Appearing on the latest episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast on October 15, the SKIMS founder and American Horror Story actress spoke candidly about how living through Kanye’s mental health struggles impacted her well-being and ultimately her decision to walk away.
Kim Kardashian on Supporting Kanye Through His Mental Health Battles
“When someone has their first mental break, you want to be super supportive and help figure that out,” Kim explained. “You want to really get into that with them and be there for them.”
However, the 44-year-old star admitted that her marriage became increasingly difficult as Kanye was “not willing to make changes.” “It makes it really hard to continue on in a relationship that can be toxic,” she shared.
The Emotional Toll and Signs of a Failing Marriage
Kim, who married Kanye in 2014, revealed that she became “dissociated” during the final stages of their relationship. “I wasn’t paying attention to how toxic it had become,” she confessed. “There were so many times where I was just really quiet, trying to figure it all out.”
According to Kim, her close friends and family could see that things were deteriorating before she was ready to accept it herself.
The Final Straw: Protecting Her Mental Health and Children
When asked by host Alex Cooper what ultimately pushed her to end the marriage, Kim admitted that it came down to her mental health and parenting responsibilities.
“Once my mental health starts to get affected and I can’t parent the way that I need to, I can’t be present and focused — then there’s got to be one of us that can,” she explained.
The All’s Fair actress, who shares four children with Kanye — North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm — said that she ultimately chose to prioritize her stability for the sake of her kids. “I had to save myself in order to be a better mom for everyone,” she said.
Kim added that she believes her children will one day understand her decision: “When everyone’s older, they’ll be able to understand it and see that all.”
A Journey of Healing and Self-Preservation
Since her divorce, Kim has spoken openly about healing, motherhood, and setting healthy boundaries. Her recent comments highlight the strength it takes to leave a relationship when love and loyalty are no longer enough to sustain emotional well-being.
As Kim continues to focus on her family, career, and personal growth, her honesty about mental health and self-preservation serves as a powerful reminder that sometimes walking away is the most courageous choice of all.
