Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta and co-founder of Facebook, shared on his Instagram account that he recently underwent surgery to replace his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The injury occurred during a mixed martial arts (MMA) sparring session, throwing a wrench into his plans for an upcoming MMA competition early next year.
The 39-year-old tech mogul posted on Instagram, “Tore my ACL sparring and just got out of surgery to replace it.” The social media platform featured several images of Zuckerberg in a hospital bed, all showing him in good spirits and on the road to recovery.
Zuckerberg, who had been training rigorously for a competitive MMA fight slated for the beginning of the next year, expressed his gratitude towards the medical team and doctors who had attended to him during this unexpected setback.
The images showed Zuckerberg lying down, with his left leg encased in a cast and bandages. Remarkably, he raised his left hand as a symbol of resilience, showing that his torn ACL had not defeated his fighting spirit. In the images, his wife, Priscilla Chan, could also be seen caring for him, wiping his forehead and assisting him in putting on his shoes.
Despite the setback, Zuckerberg remains undeterred in his ambition to participate in the competitive MMA fight. He affirmed his determination, stating, “Still looking forward to doing it after I recover. Thanks to everyone for the love and support.”
Zuckerberg’s foray into martial arts is not new. In May, he took part in his first jiu-jitsu tournament and secured medals for his team, Guerrilla Jiu Jitsu. His social media posts showcased his triumphant moments on the mat, reflecting his dedication to this physically demanding sport.
The recent injury occurred following a playful exchange between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, on social media. The two tech titans engaged in some online banter and playfully challenged each other to a “cage match.” UFC President Dana White even commented on the possibility of a direct confrontation between the two.
However, in August, Zuckerberg shared in a Threads post that Musk had not confirmed a date for their potential face-off, suggesting that he would shift his focus to more serious competitors in the MMA world.
Mark Zuckerberg’s journey from the boardroom to the MMA arena underscores his multifaceted interests and commitment to pursuing diverse passions beyond the tech industry. While the world awaits updates on the highly anticipated showdown between Zuckerberg and Musk, his recent injury and recovery process serve as a testament to his resilience and determination.
